College Football Playoff Compromise

Starting next year, College Football will begin a 4 team playoff, the 4 team playoff will include the top 4 teams in the final rankings. The 2 semifinal games between 1vs4 and 2vs3 will be held in the former BCS bowls and 2 major bowls. It will rotate every year: Orange, Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Chick-Fil-A, and Cotton Bowl. The championship game will also rotate between the BCS Bowl locations.

The problem with the 4 team playoff is there is simply too many worthy teams that do not have the opportunity to be a part of the playoff. 4 teams is a very tight space and its hard to believe that there wont be any bias towards the major football conferences like the SEC or Big 10.

The playoff needs to expand to 8 teams. 8 teams will not only increase the tv ratings but we can finally discover a true champion. Its a very simple process: the power 5 conferences in college football: Big 12, SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, and ACC have 5 automatic tie-ins that goes to the conference champion. Then there is 3 at-large teams that will be decided from the committee. The 3 at-large teams must have a no more than 2 losses each. Any non power 5 conference who has an undefeated team like Notre Dame or Boise State, automatically gets an invite to the playoff.

After all the teams are collected the committee will then seed the teams based off SOS, stats, and rankings. The no.1 will face the no.8 team, 2vs7, 3vs6, 4vs5. The championship will be between neutral locations. Miami, New Orleans, Dallas, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

  2. I still don't think that college football is nearly as exiting as the NFL. But I do appreciate the breath of your post.
